Feminism is that struggle for women to have equal rights. When you think of a feminist, even today you immediately conjure up images of an angry type of lesbian figure. This of course is nonsense. In my research for this blog I found some of the most shocking things said about women by men, here are a few.
‘If women wear miniskirts, how can they expect not to be assaulted’ Judge Robert Stein
‘Women’s failure to achieve at higher academic level is because they have smaller heads’ a senior professor at an Irish University.
You could be sat reading this right now and be a feminist without knowing. According to Steven Moffat if you believe in equality and what is written above absurd, then you are a feminist. Photography is still to an extent perceived as a very male occupation, although female photographers have been around from the very beginning. Lady Hawarden was the first lady photographer to be recognised in Victorian England. Many women since then have paved the way in equal strides as men such as, Cindy Sherman, Annie Leibovitz and Susan Sontag to name a few. And even though the amount of women in the business is just about equal with men, it’s still very much seen as a male dominated arena.
